Punjabi Bagh was previously called Refugees colony , but it was renamed as Punjabi Bagh in 1960. Rajouri Garden is a market and residential neighbourhood in West Delhi, India. The Main Market and Nehru Market are the key markets of the area. The population is largely Punjabi people who migrated to Delhi following the Partition of India from Pakistan in 1947.
Kirti Nagar, Rajendra Nagar, Patel Nagar were also refugee colonies. Colonies like Malviya Nagar, Lajpat Nagar, Nizamuddin, Kalkaji and Jangpura were created to accommodate refugees.

In later years, well-off families settled in Greater Kailash, New Friends Colony, Vasant Vihar or Defence Colony. Soon flats in Sarojini Nagar, Laxmi Bai Nagar, Sadiq Nagar, Aliganj and Kidwai Nagar were constructed to accommodate government employees.
Named after the rehabilitation minister, Meher Chand Market, Khanna Market, which are the new high streets of south Delhi along with Khan Market were built and shops were allocated to displaced people from Pakistan.
In her paper, ‘Distinctive Citizenship: Refugees, Subjects and Post-colonial State in India’s Partition’, Ravinder Kaur, associate professor of Modern South Asian Studies at University of Copenhagen suggests that the hope of displaced people was to have rentable shop allotted to them by the government since it was impossible to buy property in Delhi because of the sky-high property prices, and it changed the way Delhi lived.
In his essay, ‘Panjabi refugees and the urban development of greater Delhi’, author VN Datta mentioned refugees set up industries in Malviya Nagar and Kalkaji with monetary help from government .“Government loans and concessions helped them set up small-scale industries. The ministry of rehabilitation extended facilities for establishing such industries to refugees in Malviya Nagar and Kalkaji. About 25 industries were alloted to them,” Datta mentioned in an essay, which is part of Delhi Through the Ages: Essays in Urban History, Culture and Society. Later, Okhla Industrial area was also set up for other enterprises by refugees, he adds.
Though major migration took place between 1947 and 1950, migrants kept coming to Delhi in later years too. Nand Lal Sachdeva, Madangir resident and president of Balochistan Hindu Panchayat, who came to India in 1978, said, “Some of us came early and others came many years after Independence. By that time, south Delhi was already urbanised to accommodate refugees from Pakistan. We were given houses in colonies like Madangir,” he said.The area that has a chain of shops of garments, school bags, footwear, furniture, gift shops etc alongside a gurudwara is known as Pakistani colony by locals.

The refugees from the Gujranwala district in Pakistan then formed Gujranwala Town in Delhi.
Gujranwala Town which is now built into three parts, is a colony near the Gurudwara Nanak Piao located on the Grand Trunk Road.
It is close to Delhi University, Model Town and Civil Lines area.

Derajat is a small region in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The region is divided into three districts: Dera Ghazi Khan, Dera Ismail Khan and Dera Fateh Khan.
The people of Derajat region are called Derawals and their dialect is Derawali.
The Hindu and Sikh Derawals migrated to India at the time of the partition of India in 1947 which can be found in Derawal Nagar, Delhi, while the Muslims stayed in Pakistan.

Two prominent migrant clans namely Niazis (Pashtuns) and Awan (tribe). Over the years some Baloch made Mianwali their home and Awans.
After the decline of the Mughal Empire, the Sikh invaded and occupied Mianwali district.
The British had made the towns of Mianwali and Isa Khel tehsil headquarters of Bannu District then part of Dera Ismail Khan Division of Punjab province.
The migrants from the region made the Mianwali Nagar in West Delhi which is an upper middle class residential suburb.
There are notable apartment complexes in the area.
