Looking at the photograph, couple of important points to note. First, notice that the refugees are also carrying the cattle with them. This was done rarely as most of the people left their homes in a hurry and left the cattle in the farms or in the open fields. Second, the size of the caravan signifies that it is a combined population from multiple villages headed to India together in a single caravan. Also notice the soldier on a horse monitoring the crowd.
